Sizing Information

We tried a size Medium and an XL on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey. Those are sizes they usually wear in an “American” cut jacket. This jacket from REV’IT! fits well enough and it looks sharp, but there is very minimal room left. Many brands from Europe exhibit a fit like this, such as Alpinestars. If you look at REV’IT!’s published size chart (below), you’ll see their estimate of chest size is at least a full size smaller than what you’d find in equivalent US designed clothing.

We measured each jacket and tried them on and we’ve concluded that the fit is just about one-half size smaller than what you would find in ordinary US men’s clothing. The amount the jackets are undersized is not as severe as REV’IT!’s size chart would have you believe. For most people, this means you’ll be able to buy the size you normally wear if you want a snug, European style fit. If you want a looser American fit, or if you are between sizes, choose one size larger.

Below is the REV’IT!-published chest size for each jacket’s alpha size along with our estimate of max chest and max waist/belly. This particular style is a sport/street style so there is only a moderate taper from chest to waist, and with a style like this you can effectively tailor the fit of the waist with the side waist adjusters, which makes the jacket look great and fit great, so don’t worry if your waist/belly is smaller than the max. We only list this for those that have a belly so they can know what minimum size they’d have to choose to fit the belly.

Note: Add about 1” to your chest and belly measurements if you plan to add a back protector. Add an additional 1” inch to your chest if you will add the chest protectors.

Our Two Cents

The Airwave 4 from REV’IT! is a warm weather adventure sport jacket that is now in it’s fourth generation. As the name would imply the Airwave 4 is all about airflow and lots of it is achieved thanks to its construction, the primary materials used are a combination of softshell, ripstop, PWR | Shell Mesh, and ballistic mesh, with large/visible ventilation panels throughout the jacket as well as perforations directly on the chest. Obviously with that type of a construction and that many mesh panels the Airwave 4 will keep you comfortable well in to the hottest rides. Another thing that helps with comfort is the jackets fit, the Airwave features a regular fit, meaning that it will fall fairly straight and though not considered loose, it will not hug your body like a sport jacket would. Additional comfort features include adjustments at the hem, lower arms, wrists and an elasticated waist. Also the Airwave jacket has a Flexisnap collar, this is a cool feature as it allows the rider to adjust the neck circumference easily which allows you to for example wear the collar tighter in cooler weather to keep you warm and looser in hot weather to let you breathe.

A couple of other features to note for the Airwave 4 jacket is the inclusion of a short connection zipper, jeans loops, a hidden snap button at the collar as well as two slit pockets at the front of the jacket and two additional inner pockets. The front pockets are actually rather large, one of the bigger pockets that I have seen on a riding jacket outside of full blown cargo like pockets that you find on serious adventure and touring jackets (ones that are double to triple the price of the Airwave 4).

From a protection standpoint the Airwave 4 jacket achieves a CE Level AA abrasion rating, included SEESMART CE-level 1 Elbow and Shoulder Protectors, as well as pockets for both the Level 2 Back Protector as well as the Level 1 Divided Chest Protector. The Airwave 4 also features laminate reflection at the lower arms, should and a reflective logo on the back. Overall, in typical REV’IT! Fashion, safety was at the forefront.

Two key points that I want to make about the Airwave 4 Jacket, the first, is that it is one of the most comfortable “air” jackets that I have ever worn, this includes REV’IT!’s own Spark Air jacket, and second, yes looks are subjective, but I would argue that the photos of this jacket don’t quite do it justice, I feel that it looks better in person versus in photos. Overall if you are looking for a jacket that flows a ton of air while still providing plenty of protection you may want to give the Airwave 4 a try. There is a reason why the Airwave is on its fourth generation, and with a choice of five different colors you are bound to find one that will fit your bike and style. :: Damir 4/22/24
