Sizing Information
Generally speaking, Olympia gear will work best on those with larger builds and/or people who like their clothing to fit more casually. In contrast, our European brands fit more snug and trim (REVIT, Alpinestars are examples). We tried a size Medium jacket on Huey and an XL on Dewey (our Fit Check mannequins) and they fit just fine. You can see some shots of how they look by clicking the “View Larger Images” link above.
Olympia’s standard size chart reflects the generous sizing for jackets on the larger end of the spectrum, but we think it understates the size of the smaller jackets. To make size selection easier, we’ve developed the chart below to help you choose a size based upon your chest and belly measurements. If you find yourself between sizes in the chart, I’d advise going with the smaller due to the generally generous cut of the jacket.
This jacket, being a shorter waist jacket is styled a bit more sporty than the touring cut jackets by Olympia, and is cut with a bit more taper from chest to waist. If you have a bit of a belly you’ll want to be sure that both the chest and belly of the size you choose will be big enough for you. If you have a flat belly, you probably won’t have an issue with the belly, and if your belly is smaller than the max listed below, the jacket has elastic and a Velcro adjustment tab at the waist so you can get a good fit.
Jacket Size | Max Chest | Max Belly |
---|---|---|
Small | 40 | 36 |
Medium | 43 | 39 |
Large | 45 | 41 |
XL | 48 | 44 |
XXL | 51 | 47 |
XXXL | 54 | 50 |
XXXXL | 58 | 54 |

Our Two Cents
The Newport is a great jacket for every day street use. This is a shorter waist style which street and sport riders prefer. This jacket is mostly a mesh shell and will be great for summer, but it has a removable rain liner which extends it usability into cooler and/or wet weather.
This jacket offers a straightforward design for every day riders. And the price is quite reasonable for the quality level I see here. This jacket comes with the same armor system as most other Olympia jackets which is quite nice. The shoulder and elbow armor is CE rated and the back pad is too. Some brands require an upgrade to get a decent back pad, but this one looks pretty good to me.
For summer, this jacket should be great. About 75% of the shell is a nice open weave mesh material, so without the liner installed, air should flow right through to your body. It should be great even in the hottest months. And the jacket also has a very unique rain liner as well. It can be worn under the jacket as a wind break for cooler weather, and you can also wear it over the jacket just like a separate rain jacket. And you can even wear it off the bike as a casual style. That can be a neat feature for longer distance riders where space in your bags is a premium. Have a look at our photo gallery to see what the liner looks like alone. It is quite nice!
Other nice features include the adjustments for fit at the waist and arms and the inclusion of a short rear zipper you can use to zip to Olympia pants. There is a lot of value here for a nicely styled and well constructed jacket. And the color selections look good too. :: Paul, 11-07-17
