Sizing Information
The sizing on this jacket is comparable to other “alpha” sized jackets and is also in line with men’s clothing sizes, so choose the size you normally wear in jackets and shirts. If you want to double check sizing using a tape measure, refer to the chart below. Don’t be concerned that the belly dimensions are much bigger than your measurement—this is part of the “relaxed” styling. Side torso zippers expand the belly region another 5 inches or so if necessary (beyond what we show in the table here).
Size | Max Chest | Max Belly |
Small | 38 | 32 |
Medium | 40 | 36 |
Large | 44 | 38 |
XL | 46 | 40 |
XXL | 48 | 42 |
XXXL | 50 | 44 |
XXXXL | 52 | 46 |
Our Two Cents
The Icon Hooligan CE jacket is a reincarnation of the Hooligan Perforated jacket from 2020 with a CE garment rating and graphics reminiscent of the Hooligan 2 jacket line that was last seen in 2013 ( see our old school photos here, those are NewEnough watermarks baby! ).
The look of the Hooligan might not have changed much from 2013, but the materials and craftsmanship have come a long way! This jacket is perforated and made from a solid textile fabric and then holes are cut through it on a tight grid pattern much like you see with perforated leather jackets. I don’t know how it’s done, but the holes are perfectly spaced and extremely clean with no rough edges or loose thread. I’d guess some sort of laser method. A mesh jacket uses a woven textile material with a loose weave to allow airflow. The lower portions of the arms on this jacket have that traditional mesh weave material. I really don’t know which would be better from a safety point of view, but both methods are designed to be abrasion resistant in case of a fall.
The Hooligan CE will vent quite well thanks to the perforations and mesh material used in the underarm area, and they also have a solid fabric that breathes readily on the sides of the torso. This style is suited for mild to hot weather.
The Hooligan CE is fitted with a full complement of D30 level 1 armor… shoulders, back and elbows, so the armor package is very good and there is nothing else to add. The Icon Hooligan CE as achieved an overall CE level of A for the complete garment, and somehow is $25 lower in price than the non-CE rated version! No Icon jacket review is complete without finding St. Christopher, he rides with you in the internal napoleon stash pocket where Icon typically puts their trademark medallion. :: Mike, 10/26/2022
