Sizing Information
We measured and tried on some samples in this vest and they fit as expected. I’d advise you to simply choose the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. If you are between sizes, I’d advise choosing the smaller since these vests are generously sized for the US market.
FWIW, I visited the Cortech website to have a look at their sizing chart for vests, and for some reason, it is WAY OFF,,, by one or two sizes. For example, I measured a size XL in this vest to have a max chest in the 46”-48” range and they estimate a size 44” for the XL.
Our Two Cents
Can’t decide on what style of vest you like? I’d recommend this Convert Vest from Cortech!. You can choose no sleeves, leather, flannel, or convict sleeves; hood, no hood, or a fur collar too!
The main vest here is very much like the Cortech Thunderbird vest. It is made of a heavy canvas which reminds me of durable workman’s clothing (think Carhartt). You can go with the normal shirt style collar made of matching canvas, you can add a cotton hood, or you can add fur around the canvas collar for colder weather use (but no, I tried and you can’t do the hood and fur collar together). Cortech’s description says it is “insulated”, but I feel only a VERY thin layer of material quilted to the back of the satin liner. It feels nice, but don’t get the idea this vest can be used to add a significant layer against the cold.
And now let’s discuss the star of the show…the optional sleeves! You have not one, but three choices… leather with knit cuffs, flannel, or what I call “convict” sleeves (black and white striped cotton). Use no sleeves at all for “vest mode”, or make your choice. But please don’t mix and match!
Like the other vest products from Cortech this season, this vest has plenty of storage. I count nine total included a big fanny pouch and an inside gun pocket. The big fanny pouch might come in handy to store your reserve sleeves. Note: This vest does not offer any crash provision features other than that the sleeves are lined with Syncromesh™ which is a highly abrasive resistant mesh material. :: Paul, 07-22-21
