Sizing Information
Generally speaking, Olympia gear will work best on those with larger builds and/or people who like their clothing to fit more casually. In contrast, our European brands fit more snug and trim (REVIT, Alpinestars are examples). We tried a size Medium jacket on Huey and an XL on Dewey (our Fit Check mannequins) and they fit just fine. You can see some shots of how they look by clicking the “View Larger Images” link above.
Olympia’s standard size chart reflects the generous sizing for jackets on the larger end of the spectrum, but we think it understates the size of the smaller jackets. To make size selection easier, we’ve developed the chart below to help you choose a size based upon your chest and belly measurements. If you find yourself between sizes in the chart, I’d advise going with the smaller due to the generally generous cut of the jacket.
Jacket Size | Max Chest | Max Belly |
---|---|---|
Small | 40 | 38 |
Medium | 43 | 41 |
Large | 45 | 43 |
XL | 48 | 46 |
XXL | 51 | 49 |
XXXL | 54 | 51 |
XXXXL | 58 | 56 |

Our Two Cents
The Olympia Richmond jacket has a bit more simple setup to provide all-weather and all-season use. It is a waterproof shell with extensive venting along with a nice removable thermal liner for the cold weather layer.
I see a total of six zippered vents on this jacket… two on the front/side of the torso and two HUGE vents along the shoulder line in front and then two exhaust vents in back. All four front vents have waterproof zippers and give a clear path for the incoming air to go through to your skin. Those WP zippers will keep the rain out when closed. And those four front zips have Velcro strips to hold the rain flap open to form sort of a scoop which will help the air flow. And finally the shoulder vents can be further propped open with the two large Velcro straps below them. Have a look at our photos to see all this.
The overall zip-vent setup with the waterproof shell means that the jacket shell itself will shed water so a separate waterproof layer to go over or under, like is offered in several other Olympia jackets is not necessary. And the zip vents, by virtue of their size and how well you can prop them open to catch air means that this jacket will vent very well. It will probably be comfortable in all but the hottest summer weather. But if you ride in rain, and otherwise your riding is in warm to cold weather, you’ll really like this simplified setup (as compared to three layer systems).
The removable cold weather layer is plushy has a long body length and includes the full sleeves, so it will do as good a job as any I’ve seen. And it is made of slick material inside that will help when trying to slip your arms in. If you wore the jacket with the liner, but then need to shed it as the day warms usp, you can use the fanny pocket in back to stow it. Finally, I notice a concealed rain hood you can deploy and wear UNDER your helmet. If you fasten the bottom part of the rain hood over your jacket collar, the water should shed around your neck and not down your neck. Nice feature!.
There are lots of storage pockets, zippers, snaps, etc shown in our photo gallery so have a look at those. I really think you’ll like this jacket for its capability without too much complication. It feels very sturdy and well made overall, and the jacket comes complete with a full compliment of CE approved armor so there is nothing else to buy. At this price point, this looks like a very good value to me. :: Paul, 12-05-17
