Sizing Information
We tried on the Mission jackets in a size XL and Medium on our Fit Test Mannequins. For a jacket of this style, the fit was OK. When I say “this style” I mean this is a jacket designed for every day street use. It doesn’t taper a lot from chest to waist and doesn’t have pre-curved sleeves, etc like a sport cut jacket. So the intended fit is sort of casual and comfortable. Based on what we saw, I’d advise you to buy the size you normally buy in men’s clothing. As you can see from the chart below, the chest sizes indicated for each “alpha” size are generous (by about one size) which further confirms my opinion that these jackets are cut for a casual fit. If you are between sizes, choose down.
Size | Chest (inches) | Sleeve (inches) |
---|---|---|
Small | 42 – 43 | 24.5 |
Medium | 44 – 45 | 25 |
Large | 46 – 47 | 25.5 |
XL | 48 – 49 | 26 |
XXL | 50 – 51 | 26.5 |
XXXL | 52 – 53 | 27 |
Our Two Cents
The Mission jacket by AGV Sport is a textile shell design with some leather overlays on the shoulders and elbows, and two horizontal strips on the chest and back. The leather tends to jazz up an otherwise modestly styled textile jacket, and of course the leather adds a bit of extra abrasion protection too. The jacket offers some pretty good flexibility with regard to weather. There are LARGE zippered vents on the front and back which should allow for a lot of air flow in summer weather. A removable waterproof liner is also included. The liner will provide a bit of wind block in cooler weather and also serve to keep water off your body in rainy weather (but of course the shell material will saturate). The jacket has some foam pieces for elbow and shoulder armor and a similar-material back pad. OK, so enough with the list of design features… what about the jacket in general? Well, uh, let’s just say the overall quality matches the price. It is an entry-level price and entry-level quality. When considering gear, every consumer makes the choice of price vs quality. We have jackets that have a functional list like this that are three times the price. Most are 1.5 times or 2 times. This jacket happens to be at the bottom of the price/quality spectrum. What don’t you get with an entry level style like this? Well, you don’t get CE approved armor, you get less robust foam armor pieces; the overall tailoring is less “styled” and more simplistic; the liner/vent climate system is a bit less functional…. you get the idea I guess. Is it a lot of jacket for the money? Yes, I believe it is. Is it on par with Alpinestar or Firstgear? No. Is it on par with Tour Master or Joe Rocket? Not quite. Anyway, you get the idea. Be sure to check out our feature photo spread by taking the “View Larger Images” link above and you will also see how the jacket looked on our friend Dewey. :: Paul, 06-11-12
