Our Two Cents
The Merlin SHENSTONE MESH D3O® GLOVE is a mid length glove that is designed for warm weather riding with air flow in mind (Merlin calls it a short summer cuff, but to me they go longer than most other short cuff gloves that I have tried on). Overall construction is a combination of premium cowhide leather, high quality mesh ventilation panels, a polyester liner for easy fit and moisture control, as well as leather overlay panels for additional protection. Other features to note are accordion active stretch panels at all the fingers as well as the top of the wrist, a wrap around Velcro wrist strap with no gusset bulk, punched leather panels for improved breathability, as well as external finger seams for improved comfort. The Shenstone gloves also feature Digital Touch finger tips on both the index finger and thumb, working well in testing with both Android and iPhone touch screens.
From a protection standpoint the gloves are CE Level 1 KP rated and do feature a D3O® Knuckle Protector, but not much else in terms of impact protection or sliders. There is an extra overlay of leather that goes along the entire pinky side of the glove which is a welcome addition.
Overall I am not really a fan of these gloves, as honestly, for the $100 price range Merlin itself offers better gloves with more features and protection not to mention the many other brands that we sell do as well. Also for a glove that is supposed to be a simple summer glove it really does feel a bit bulky and loose, Id say sloppy is a good term to describe it as some of the fingers are longer than others, the thumb feels overly wide and loose and just overall the fit of the glove is not very form fitting. Again for the price range you can find gloves that fit better, offer the same or better materials and offer a good amount more when it comes to protection. In my opinion even the Griffin gloves from Merlin that come in at $30 cheaper offer a better fit and more protection. :: Damir 6/20/24
