Our Two Cents
The Merlin GRIFFIN URBAN D3O® GLOVE is a part of Merlin’s Leisure Moto collection that is meant to appeal to urban motorcycle riders. This particular glove I would consider a warm weather , short cuff glove as it features a good amount of mesh. Overall materials include the previously mentioned strong polyester air mesh panels, perforated goat leather at the palm and knuckle, leather pipe trim at both the cuff and strap edge (including Anthracite Reflective Safety Pipe) as well as Conductive Digital Touch Index Finger And Thumb Tips for touch screen compatibility (in our testing the gloves performed well with both Android and iPhone devices).
From a protection standpoint the Griffin gloves include a solid knuckle mold overlay with a D3O® Pre-Curved Soft Knuckle Armor, padded scaphoid protection, as well as a CE Level 1 KP rating. Additional features include a summer cuff that has a wrap around Velcro cuff enclosure with subtle Merlin branding as well as pre-curved fingers for better comfort.
Overall the Merlin GRIFFIN URBAN D3O® GLOVES offer a good value for the money coming in at $69.99 and in my opinion punch well above their price point in Merlin’s own line up. Overall I thought they fit really well and were comfortable in my expected size Large and provided a good amount of grip, feel and dexterity, in line with what I would expect a short summer glove to provide. Overall at the price point I think this is a glove worth looking at. With that said, if your budget allows, I would recommend stepping up to about $100 for a pair of gloves to allow yourself access to even more hard parts, sliders and other protective features. :: Damir 6/20/24
