Merlin Glenn Wax Leather Glove

The Merlin Heritage Collection seamlessly blends classic styling with modern protection to create a versatile selection of motorcycle clothing. We use a range of different market-leading materials, including Halley Stevensons® Waxed Cotton, D3O® armour and Reissa® waterproofing to ensure the highest quality. Our heritage collection also expands into leather garments for retro riders who want the old-school looks minus the signature feel of waxed cotton. Combining the best of British-made motorcycle clothing, our Heritage line offers a wide variety for both men and women.

The Merlin Glenn leather motorcycle gloves build on the success of our Ranton gloves, but are more suited to riding in the summer heat. With less thermal properties and no waterproof membrane, the Glenn gloves feel much more like a traditional leather summer glove while maintaining breathability. Made from Halley Stevensons® 12oz waxed cotton, the Glenn gloves receive a leather overlay to the knuckles, cuff and palm for enhanced abrasion resistance and a unique, heritage look. A punched leather palm increases cool airflow, while a hard scaphoid slider and knuckle armour take care of all-important protection. The short cuff design means the Glenn gloves are easy to slide under a jacket sleeve, and there’s subtle Merlin branding on the Velcro adjustment tab. A touch-screen compatible fingertip ensures easy use of smartphones or sat-navs without having to remove the gloves.

To maintain your leather gloves, you can use a neutral soap and sponge or a lint-free cloth to wipe over the surface. Please do not leave them to soak in a bucket, as you would if you were cleaning a textile motorcycle glove.

Our Two Cents

The Glenn Wax Leather Gloves from Merlin fall in to their Heritage collection that likes to take modern protection features and mix it with classic styling and design. These gloves have a very cool, vintage look to them and would look right at home on a cafe racer, a cruiser, a bobber or other bikes in similar styles. The Glenn glove is a short cuff glove that is created for summer weather use. Overall construction includes Halley Stevensons® Scottish 12oz Silkwax Cotton, as well as cowhide leather panels including a punched leather palm for better breathability. Overall deign is very minimal and traditional looking with a nice choice of classic colors in a black variant and a brown/dark brown variant.

For protection, there is an extra layer of leather on the palm and thumb, there is a scaphoid hard plastic slider/protector as well as a hard knuckle protector. Overall the Glenn Wax leather gloves are CE Level 1 kp certified. Additional features include touchscreen compatibility at the index finger and in testing the gloves performed decent with both Android and iPhone devices. The glove opening/closing is adjusted and secured by a hook and look enclosure that features a nice but subtle Merlin logo.

Overall I am a fan of how these gloves look style/design wise but unfortunately I am personally not a fan of them. I have a few different issues. First off and my biggest complaint is that the stitching that is located at the center of each fingertip is just awkwardly located and for me personally is uncomfortable and borderline painful while wearing the gloves, mind you this is after a few minutes of wear, I couldn’t imagine an entire day of riding in them. Second, for the price I would like some foam or other type of padding around the hard parts and lastly, speaking of price, at the $130ish price point there are a lot of competing gloves that protect just as well or better but that offer better comfort. :: Damir 6/12/24
