Our Two Cents
The CERRO D3O® WATERPROOF GLOVE from Merlin is a waterproof, adventure/touring long almost full gauntlet glove (maybe like a 3/4 rather than a full) that falls in to their explorer collection. Overall construction of the glove consists of goat leather, stretch nylon, grip overlay panels at the palms and naturally to be waterproof, a Hipora® Waterproof and Breathable Membrane. These gloves come in only one color and feature minimal branding and overall design making them perfect for someone looking for a simple glove that blends in visually (though this is slightly ruined by the bright orange D3O® tag on the top of each palm).
Looking at protection these gloves are CE Level 1 KP certified and feature D3O® knuckle impact protectors with finger knuckle protectors and an additional goat leather palm overlay. Additional features to note are articulated finger joints, accordion stretch panels at the top of the wrist, as well as Digital Touch finger tips on both the index finger and thumb (in testing the CERRO gloves performed well with both Android and iPhone devices when compared to other adventure/touring gloves).
Overall the CERRO glove is ok, and I say just ok because even though it is about $20 cheaper than the REXX glove from Merlin, subjectively it is uglier, feels less comfortable and more bulky, doesn’t feature nearly as much protection, is shorter allowing for less coverage and with only one wrist adjuster less comfort and adjustability, doesn’t use as many high quality materials and lastly isnt as premium feeling. Honestly for all the things that I just mentioned saving $20 over the REXX doesn’t sound accurate, it feels like the price difference should be much higher, so my recommendation is skip the CERRO gloves, pay an extra $20 and get a much, much better glove in the REXX. :: Damir 6/14/24
