Sizing Information

We measured a sampling of these jeans of different waist sizes and lengths and find they are much like other jeans you’d buy these days. They are just a bit “vanity” sized in the waist. Across the size run, the actual measured waist is just about 2” larger than the stated size which is typical vanity sizing. And of course these are denim and may shrink just a tad too. So my overall advice would be to buy the waist size you normally wear in jeans; you’ll likely find a fit. If you aren’t sure whether your jeans are vanity sized like I’m describing, then either measure your waist where your normal jeans ride or measure your favorite pair of jeans to verify. You’ll probably find that you measure out a bit bigger than your normal jeans size and also the waist of your favorite jeans measures out an inch or two bigger than their stated size. If so, you will be on track following my advice.

The material used in these jeans has an elastic component to them which makes them pretty forgiving for size. If you find yourself between sizes, I’d suggest going with the smaller. The rear waist is slightly raised for additional coverage and there are loops for a belt.

The inseam lengths measure out about 32” in each size.

Size Max Waist Thigh Inseam Ankle
30 32 19.5 32 15
32 34 20.5 32 15.5
34 36 21.5 32 15.75
36 38 22 32 16
38 40 23 32 17

Our Two Cents

Fresco jeans by Trilobite are a motorcycle-specific jean with toned down styling to make them look like your favorite jeans. I think Trilobite did a fantastic job with these jeans, externally there are no real hints to the protection that lies beneath.

The Fresco jean is full stretch so the fit is easy and comfortable. Trilobite lists them as “Slim Fit” which basically means they are not baggy in the seat and thigh area, but we found them to fit comfortably and they didn’t seem tight in the rise. Trilobite included CE level 2 armor in the hips and knees that attaches to hook and loop patches in the pockets. This type of attachment system makes it easy to adjust the height of the armor within the pocket so that you have the perfect alignment with your knee and hip. The armor itself is from a new company for us, Flying Bats armor. It is thin and flexible while still offering level 2 protection. The original bullet points from Trilobite listed access to the knee armor from the exterior but that is not the case, you can only access them from inside the lining.

The waist closure on the Trilobite Fresco jeans features what they are calling a “reversed double closure” which is a fancy way of saying it has two buttons at the top of the zippered fly. One button is outward facing, like normal for jeans, and the other faces the body (see our additional photos for details). This type of closure offers extra security against accidental opening of the fly in the event of a crash. The interior of the pants feature a full length comfort liner from the waist all the way down to mid-calf. The rear waist is slightly raised for additional coverage and there are loops for a belt.

The jeans are a traditional 5 pocket design with a small coin/key pocket on the front, but there is an additional “hidden” pocket at the rear above the right hip pocket. This is intended for carrying a cell phone and is just about the perfect depth for a current model iPhone Pro Max, but it doesn’t have a closure so beware of riding with a phone in there.

Overall these Trilobite Fresco jeans have a great casual look while offering fantastic protection for communting riders. The pants are CE AA rated with incorporated flexible level 2 armor that is low profile. :: Mike, 06-09-23
