Note about Oxtar: This closeout sale is a result of a “re-branding” by the Italian based company that makes Oxtar boots. For ‘08, the almost identical line will be re-introduced as TCS. The re-branding was a result of a change of ownership of the parent company and the need to settle a trademark dispute with another company (has nothing to do with the product). We purchased the entire remaining Oxtar street boot inventory which we are selling at closeout prices until gone. Prices for the new TCS line are considerably higher, so take advantage of the Oxtar closeout sale while inventory remains.

Our Two Cents
I really like the styling of this boot as compared to previous Oxtar race designs. And the fit is a bit better than before as well (on me anyway) since it’s got a slightly wider toe and is a bit less wide than before. The multicolored sole is pretty neat too. For protection, this style has the Torsion Control System, a very elaborate flexible armor system to protect your ankle and heel and it’s also designed to prevent hyperextension both front to back and side to side (in other words, a system such as this helps to keep your ankle from being broken in a fall). This type of system has become a standard for the top boot in each manufacturer’s line-up. But this boot has another feature not found on most others: the Metatarsal Control System incorporated into the Titanium Toe Sliders. Take the “View Larger Pictures” link above and you’ll see a hinge arrangement behind the toe slider which is designed to limit the amount of flex the boot will allow for the front of your foot. To document the protection features of the boot, the TCS Evo RX boasts CE approval. The approval requires cushioning of lateral shock on shin and ankle bones, lateral impact on the sole, resistance to impact abrasion, resistance of upper to cutting and resistance of the sole to abrasion (sounds impressive, no?). And then there are the Titanium toe sliders (yes, really made of the metal—not just a color). These provide longer wear than nylon, and as you might imagine would slide very easily on asphalt, and best of all they spark when you touch down!

The FirstGear Commander gloves are awesome. They really do keep you warm. Almost too warm. (Read more...)

The Sidi boots are very comfy and more waterproof than anything I have owned. The Commander gloves are warm but not as warm as some more expensive gloves. They start getting water in them after 30-40 mins of riding in the rain. (Read more...)
