Icon D3O Vest

We tried on a couple different sizes in our office and found the vest to fit as expected. The two large side Velcro straps give the adjustability for chest size. I tried on the Large/XL size and it fit just fine, but I could tell I was on the upper end of its size range. My advice would be to buy the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. If you are between sizes, go up.

The new Icon D3O vest is something a little different. It’s a full coverage back protector along with a full chest protector made to be worn UNDER a jacket or race suit.

The back protector AND the chest protector in this unit are both tagged as CE level 2, which means they are very substantial. But being D3O material, they are still flexible and comfortable to wear. The harness that holds them together is pretty easy to use. Just separate one or both of the lower wide Velcro tabs and set it down on your shoulder (stick your head through the two shoulder straps). The upper two shoulder straps are not adjustable although they are removable, (although I can’t imagine why). Both the front chest protector and back pad are more than just D3O protectors… they also have a hard plastic layer over them (to the outside) that will give even more impact protection. The combination of a hard shell and softer energy absorbing materials reminds me of back protectors for high end race suits. The combination of two materials like this seems to be the accepted best way to protect the back and chest.

In back, there is a small little D3O extension pad, which is removable. It will be useful when wearing this rig under a one piece race suit, but otherwise, you’ll probably want to take it off.

In front, there is a nifty medical info card built into the chest plate. You can fill that out so the emergency response will have some basic data about you. :: Paul, 04-25-19
