Sizing Information
We tried a size Medium and an XL on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey. Those are sizes they usually wear in an “American” cut jacket. This jacket from REV’IT! fits well enough and it looks sharp, but there is very minimal room left. Many brands from Europe exhibit a fit like this, such as Alpinestars.
After having measured sizes and tried them on, we recommend that you buy the size you normally wear in men’s clothing. You’ll get a snug fit which is appropriate for motorcycling. If you are between sizes and/or prefer your gear to fit more loosely, then choose the larger size.
REV’IT! has been adjusting the sizing of their gear since they entered the US market and early jackets fit MUCH smaller than this, and the sizes in their standard size chart also reflect a very tight fit for a given “alpha” size (see below). But more recent products bound for the US (including this Energy HV style) fit much more closely to what you’d expect out of American sized clothing. We only offer up their published size chart to explain away any confusion you might have by viewing their size chart as compared to how the jackets actually fit.
So here is a chart we put together to show you REV’IT’s published sizes alongside our estimate of how these jackets fit. As you can see, the chest sizes are just a bit more snug (maybe 1” or so) that what you’ve seen in the past from other brands.
Jacket Size | REV’IT! Published Max Chest |
Our Estimate of Max Chest |
Our Estimate of Max Belly/Waist |
---|---|---|---|
Medium | 37-39 | 39-41 | 39 |
Large | 39-41 | 41-43 | 41 |
XL | 41-44 | 43-45 | 43 |
XXL | 44-46 | 45-47 | 45 |
XXXL | 46-48 | 47-49 | 47 |
XXXXL | 48-50 | 49-51 | 49 |
This particular style is not “sport” oriented so there is not a lot of taper from chest to waist, and with a style like this you can effectively tailor the fit of the waist with the side waist adjusters, which makes the jacket look great and fit great, so don’t worry if your waist/belly is smaller than the max. We only list this for those that have a belly so they can know what minimum size they’d have to choose to fit the belly.
Our Two Cents
Here’s an exclusive closeout deal you’ll only find at Motorcyclegear.com! We recently bought this closeout group from REV’IT! and we think it is a great deal. Since we began carrying REV’IT! almost two years ago, I’ve reviewed well over a dozen jackets and other items and I’m always impressed with their quality. So this closeout group seemed like a no-brainer to me when they approached me with it. And the Hi Viz color is always a hit with people because they want to be seen!
Now granted, this was not REV’IT!’s high end touring style when it was introduced a couple seasons back, mostly because it is fitted with a fixed rain liner and a removable thermal liner. Their higher end products offer both a removable thermal liner and a removable rain liner which allows more flexibility in varying weather conditions… but the overall quality of the brand is there and this is a fantastic price. Now about that rain liner system. LOTS of touring jackets offer the “fixed” rain liner setup. The liner is permanently installed between the jacket’s outer shell and the inside lining. And this type rain protection will give you the very best chance at keeping water out because there are no paths for entrance such as zippers, snaps, stitching, etc through the liner. The flip side is that, although the jacket has some zippered venting on the front and back, the rain liner won’t allow the air flow to pass through completely to your skin. For that reason, I recommend this jacket for cold to warm weather, but it won’t be comfortable in hot weather. My friend Rick at webbikeworld.com did his usual elaborate review on this model and was pleasantly surprised with how cool the jacket felt, so maybe I’m making too much out of this. Here is what he said in summary: The amazing thing about the jacket is that it wears cooler than you’d think, even with the full-length Hydratex liner. A link to his full review
For storage, there are two large pockets in front and one inside breast pocket (both in the jacket shell and thermal liner). Oh, and did I mention visibility? Wow… that is a bright color! There is also good visibility at night with the reflective strips visible from the front, side and rear. We took some “night shots” in our photo gallery that show how well the reflectives work. Sizing is adjustable on the sleeves and at mid-waist. When our inventory sells through, this deal will be gone. Just use the drop down menu to see what sizes are still in stock. :: Paul, 02-03-14
Note About Back Armor: In Spring of 2014 Rev’It! made a decision to stop including an EVA foam back pad in their jackets because they are preparing to conform to recent European standards that will require every part of a garment to provide a minimum level of protection and they anticipate that the foam back pad previously offered would not meet the requirement. As an option, you can purchase a CE certified back protector (see choice(s) below) :: Paul, 04-09-14

REV'IT is my favorite brand so far. It is very good looking, and the style of fit is different than american brand. This jacket is slimmer and more fashionable. There are a lot of small features that American brands don't have. I like it a lot. I... (Read more...)
